products description :
The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) is the virus that causes the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) which is a serious, potentially life-threatening viral infection. The spike (S) protein of coronaviruses is responsible for receptor binding and membrane fusion. It is a type I integral membrane protein, which shares similarity with class I virus fusion proteins, and is N-glycosylated and trimerized in the endoplasmic reticulum. The S protein contains the determinants for host specificity, cell tropism, and pathogenesis. The S protein is also able to stimulate humoral and cellular immune responses, and therefore, it is one of the major targets for the development of vaccine candidates. The S?10 is a fragment containing residues from 1029 to 1129 of the S protein.
