products description :
Glycogen Synthase Kinase-3 has two isoforms, GSK-3alpha and GSK3beta. GSK3 is a serine/threonine kinase that affects glycogen metabolism by phosphorylating and down-regulating the activity of muscle glycogen synthase as well as the regulation in Wnt signal pathway. GSK-3 alpha reduces the substrates beta-catenin and tau to imply an important role in Wnt signaling and tauopathies such as Alzheimer's disease.

ncbi summary :
Glycogen synthase kinase 3-alpha (GSK3A; EC {2.7.1.37}) is a multifunctional protein serine kinase, homologous to Drosophila 'shaggy' (zeste-white3) and implicated in the control of several regulatory proteins including glycogen synthase (see GYS1, {138570}) and transcription factors (e.g., JUN, {165160}). It also plays a role in the WNT ({164820}) and PI3K (see PIK3CG, {601232}) signaling pathways (see review by {1:Ali et al. (2001)}).[supplied by OMIM]
uniprot summary :
Function: Implicated in the hormonal control of several regulatory proteins including glycogen synthase, MYB and the transcription factor JUN. Catalytic activity: ATP + [tau protein] = ADP + [tau protein] phosphate. Subunit structure: Monomer. Interacts with ARRB2. Sequence similarities: Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. CMGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family. GSK-3 subfamily.Contains 1 protein kinase domain.
