ncbi summary :
This gene encodes a G-protein coupled receptor for gastrin and cholecystokinin (CCK), regulatory peptides of the brain and gastrointestinal tract. This protein is a type B gastrin receptor, which has a high affinity for both sulfated and nonsulfated CCK analogs and is found principally in the central nervous system and the gastrointestinal tract. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. A misspliced transcript variant including an intron has been observed in cells from colorectal and pancreatic tumors. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2015]
uniprot summary :
CCKBR: Receptor for gastrin and cholecystokinin. The CKK-B receptors occur throughout the central nervous system where they modulate anxiety, analgesia, arousal, and neuroleptic activity. This receptor mediates its action by association with G proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Protein type: Membrane protein, multi-pass; Membrane protein, integral; Receptor, GPCR; GPCR, family 1. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11p15.4. Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane; plasma membrane. Molecular Function: 1-phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase regulator activity; cholecystokinin receptor activity; gastrin receptor activity; phosphoinositide phospholipase C activity; protein binding; type B gastrin/cholecystokinin receptor binding. Biological Process: cell proliferation; cell surface receptor linked signal transduction; digestion; elevation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration; feeding behavior; G-protein signaling, coupled to IP3 second messenger (phospholipase C activating); gastric acid secretion; gland development; gut development; positive regulation of cell proliferation; regulation of phosphoinositide 3-kinase activity; sensory perception
