Peptide ELISA (EIA), Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
app notes :
Peptide ELISA: Antibody detection limit dilution 1: 16000. Immunohistochemistry: In paraffin embedded Human Small Intestine shows staining of cells in the laminia propria between the intestinal vili. Recommended concentration, 3-6ug/ml. Western Blot: Preliminary experiments gave an approx. 60kDa band in Human Kidney lysates after 0.1ug/ml antibody staining. Please note that currently we cannot find an explanation in the literature for the band we observe given the calculated size of 37.7kDa according to NP_000443.1. The 60kDa band was successfully blocked by incubation with the immunizing peptide.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes a sodium/bile acid cotransporter. This transporter is the primary mechanism for uptake of intestinal bile acids by apical cells in the distal ileum. Bile acids are the catabolic product of cholesterol metabolism, so this protein is also critical for cholesterol homeostasis. Mutations in this gene cause primary bile acid malabsorption (PBAM); muatations in this gene may also be associated with other diseases of the liver and intestines, such as familial hypertriglyceridemia (FHTG). [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]
uniprot summary :
ASBT: Plays a critical role in the sodium-dependent reabsorption of bile acids from the lumen of the small intestine. Plays a key role in cholesterol metabolism. Defects in SLC10A2 are a cause of primary bile acid malabsorption (PBAM). PBAM is an idiopathic intestinal disorder associated with congenital diarrhea, steatorrhea, interruption of the enterohepatic circulation of bile acids, and reduced plasma cholesterol levels. Belongs to the bile acid:sodium symporter (BASS) (TC 2.A.28) family. Protein type: Membrane protein, multi-pass; Transporter; Membrane protein, integral. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 13q33. Cellular Component: apical plasma membrane; integral to plasma membrane; microvillus; plasma membrane. Molecular Function: bile acid:sodium symporter activity. Biological Process: bile acid and bile salt transport; sodium ion transport; transmembrane transport; transport. Disease: Bile Acid Malabsorption, Primary
