ncbi summary :
This gene encodes a receptor for inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate, a second messenger that mediates the release of intracellular calcium. The receptor contains a calcium channel at the C-terminus and the ligand-binding site at the N-terminus. Knockout studies in mice suggest that type 2 and type 3 inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors play a key role in exocrine secretion underlying energy metabolism and growth. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2010]
uniprot summary :
IP3R3: a multi-pass endoplasmic reticulum membrane receptor for inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate, a second messenger that mediates the release of intracellular calcium. Expressed in intestinal crypt and villus epithelial cells. The receptor contains a calcium channel in its C-terminal extremity. Its large N-terminal cytoplasmic region has the ligand-binding site in the N-terminus and modulatory sites in the middle portion immediately upstream of the channel region. Phosphorylated on tyrosine residues. Phosphorylated by AKT1 on serine and/or threonine residues. Belongs to the InsP3 receptor family. Protein type: Channel, calcium; Channel, ligand-gated; Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6p21.31. Cellular Component: apical part of cell; brush border; cell soma; cytoplasm; endoplasmic reticulum; endoplasmic reticulum membrane; integral to plasma membrane; membrane; myelin sheath; nuclear outer membrane; plasma membrane; receptor complex; sarcoplasmic reticulum; secretory granule membrane. Molecular Function: calcium ion binding; calcium-release channel activity; inositol 1,3,4,5 tetrakisphosphate binding; inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate-sensitive calcium-release channel activity; inositol hexakisphosphate binding; phosphoinositide binding; protein binding. Biological Process: elevation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration; G-protein coupled receptor protein signaling pathway; platelet activation; protein heterooligomerization; protein homooligomerization; regulation of insulin secretion; response to calcium ion. Disease: Diabetes Mellitus, Insulin-dependent
