products description :
Tumor-associated calcium signal transducer 2, a carcinoma-associated antigen defined by the monoclonal antibody GA733. This antigen is a member of a family including at least two type I membrane proteins. It transduces an intracellular calcium signal and acts as a cell surface receptor. Mutations of this gene result in gelatinous drop-like corneal dystrophy, an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by severe corneal amyloidosis leading to blindness. Clone #: 162-46.2

ncbi summary :
This intronless gene encodes a carcinoma-associated antigen. This antigen is a cell surface receptor that transduces calcium signals. Mutations of this gene have been associated with gelatinous drop-like corneal dystrophy.[provided by RefSeq, Dec 2009]
uniprot summary :
Function: May function as a growth factor receptor. Subcellular location: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Tissue specificity: Placenta, pancreatic carcinoma cell lines. Post-translational modification: The N-terminus is blocked. Involvement in disease: Corneal dystrophy, gelatinous drop-like (GDLD) [MIM:204870]: A form of lattice corneal dystrophy, a class of inherited stromal amyloidoses characterized by pathognomonic branching lattice figures in the cornea. GDLD is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by severe corneal amyloidosis leading to blindness. Clinical manifestations, which appear in the first decade of life, include blurred vision, photophobia, and foreign-body sensation. By the third decade, raised, yellowish-gray, gelatinous masses severely impair visual acuity.Note: The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry. Ref.8. Sequence similarities: Belongs to the EPCAM family.Contains 1 thyroglobulin type-1 domain.
