products description :
Background/Introduction: Interleukin 13 (IL-13) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IL13 gene which maps to 5q23-q31. It is cytokine secreted by many cell types, but especially T helper type 2 (Th2) cells, that is a mediator of allergic inflammation and disease. IL-13 is associated primarily with the induction of airway disease, it also has anti-inflammatory properties. IL-13 induces many features of allergic lung disease, including airway hyperresponsiveness, goblet cell metaplasia and mucus hypersecretion, which all contribute to airway obstruction. It also induces secretion of chemokines that are required for recruitment of allergic effector cells to the lung. Principle of the Assay: This kit was based on sandwich enzyme-linked immune-sorbent assay technology. Anti-IL-13 polyclonal antibody was pre-coated onto 96-well plates. And the biotin conjugated anti-IL-13 polyclonal antibody was used as detection antibodies. The standards, test samples and biotin conjugated detection antibody were added to the wells subsequently, and wash with wash buffer. Avidin-Biotin-Peroxidase Complex was added and unbound conjugates were washed away with wash buffer. TMB substrates were used to visualize HRP enzymatic reaction. TMB was catalyzed by HRP to produce a blue color product that changed into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow is proportional to the IL-13 amount of sample captured in plate. Read the O.D. absorbance at 450nm in a microplate reader, and then the concentration of IL-13 can be calculated.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes an immunoregulatory cytokine produced primarily by activated Th2 cells. This cytokine is involved in several stages of B-cell maturation and differentiation. It up-regulates CD23 and MHC class II expression, and promotes IgE isotype switching of B cells. This cytokine down-regulates macrophage activity, thereby inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. This cytokine is found to be critical to the pathogenesis of allergen-induced asthma but operates through mechanisms independent of IgE and eosinophils. This gene, IL3, IL5, IL4, and CSF2 form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q, with this gene particularly close to IL4. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
Function: Cytokine. Inhibits inflammatory cytokine production. Synergizes with IL2 in regulating interferon-gamma synthesis. May be critical in regulating inflammatory and immune responses. Subunit structure: Interacts with IL13RA2. Subcellular location: Secreted. Involvement in disease: Allergic rhinitis (ALRH) [MIM:607154]: A common disease with complex inheritance characterized by mucosal inflammation caused by allergen exposure.Note: Disease susceptibility is associated with variations affecting the gene represented in this entry. Sequence similarities: Belongs to the IL-4/IL-13 family. Caution: It is uncertain whether Met-1 or Met-15 is the initiator. Sequence caution: The sequence AAA36107.1 differs from that shown.
