products description :
These antisera were raised in rabbits which were immunized with Salmon Calcitonin covalently attached onto a carrier protein. The antisera have been shown to be specific for the immunocytochemical detection of Calcitonin. This antisera has been characterized by ELISA techniques. Dilute the lyophilized antibody with 0.1 ml of 10 mg/ml BSA in PBS for the equivalent of whole antiserum. or with additional buffer for more dilute antibody. We recommend that the end user perform a titration experiment (starting at least at a dilution of 1:500) on their sample using their specific cell staining techniques since different laboratories use various techniques.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes the peptide hormones calcitonin, calcitonin gene-related peptide and katacalcin by tissue-specific alternative RNA splicing of the gene transcripts and cleavage of inactive precursor proteins. Calcitonin is involved in calcium regulation and acts to regulate phosphorus metabolism. Calcitonin gene-related peptide functions as a vasodilator while katacalcin is a calcium-lowering peptide. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
uniprot summary :
Function: Calcitonin causes a rapid but short-lived drop in the level of calcium and phosphate in blood by promoting the incorporation of those ions in the bones.Katacalcin is a potent plasma calcium-lowering peptide. Subcellular location: Secreted. Sequence similarities: Belongs to the calcitonin family.
