products description :
Fatty acid binding proteins are a family of small, highly conserved, cytoplasmic proteins (14-15kDa) that bind long chain fatty acids, their CoA derivatives, billiruben, organic anions and other small hydrophobic molecules. They are abundantly present in various cell types and due to their small size rapidly leak from damaged cells leading to a rise in serum levels. Our recombinant M-FABP comprises a 132 amino acid fragment (1-132) corresponding to the human myelin FABP protein and is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag. This product is for research use only and is not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic use.

ncbi summary :
The protein encoded by this gene is a brain fatty acid binding protein. Fatty acid binding proteins (FABPs) are a family of small, highly conserved, cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. FABPs are thought to play roles in fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism. [provided by RefSeq]
uniprot summary :
Function: B-FABP could be involved in the transport of a so far unknown hydrophobic ligand with potential morphogenic activity during CNS development. It is required for the establishment of the radial glial fiber system in developing brain, a system that is necessary for the migration of immature neurons to establish cortical layers. Subcellular location: Cytoplasm. Tissue specificity: Expressed in brain and other neural tissues. Domain: Forms a beta-barrel structure that accommodates the hydrophobic ligand in its interior. Sequence similarities: Belongs to the calycin superfamily. Fatty-acid binding protein (FABP) family.
