Fatty acid binding protein is one of a group of lowmolecular weight proteins involved in the solubilization and transport of fatty acids. The release of cytoplasmic heart fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP) into the plasma of cardiac patients is used as a marker of cardiac damage. In 18 out of 22 patients with established AMI the plasma FABP level was at or above the threshold level in blood-samples taken within 3.5 hours after the first onset of symptoms of AMI, which compares very favourably with more established markers such as CKMB. Our recombinant human FABP is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag. This product is for research use only and is not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic use.

Fatty acid binding proteins (FABPs) are a family of small, highly conserved, cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. Function: B-FABP could be involved in the transport of a so far unknown hydrophobic ligand with potential morphogenic activity during CNS development. It is required for the establishment of the radial glial fiber system in developing brain, a system that is necessary for the migration of immature neurons to establish cortical layers. Subcellular location: Cytoplasm. Tissue specificity: Expressed in brain and other neural tissues. Domain: Forms a beta-barrel structure that accommodates the hydrophobic ligand in its interior.
