products description :
Fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs), such as B-FABP, are a group of low-molecular weight cytosolic proteins involved in the solubilization and transport of fatty acids. Together with the heart-type fatty acid-binding proteins (H-FABP), B-FABP is released into serum after acute ischaemic stroke and is used as an early marker for the diagnosis of stroke. Recombinant human B-FABP comprises a 132aa polypeptide (1-132) corresponding to the full-length protein and is expressed in E Coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag. This product is not intended for therapeutic use.

ncbi summary :
The gene encodes a small, highly conserved cytoplasmic protein that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. The encoded protein is important in the establishment of the radial glial fiber in the developing brain. Alternative splicing and promoter usage results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. Pseudogenes of this gene are found on multiple chromosomes. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2016]
uniprot summary :
FABP7: B-FABP could be involved in the transport of a so far unknown hydrophobic ligand with potential morphogenic activity during CNS development. It is required for the establishment of the radial glial fiber system in developing brain, a system that is necessary for the migration of immature neurons to establish cortical layers. Belongs to the calycin superfamily. Fatty-acid binding protein (FABP) family. Protein type: Lipid-binding; Cell cycle regulation; Cell development/differentiation. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6q22-q23. Cellular Component: cytoplasm; cytosol; nucleoplasm. Biological Process: negative regulation of cell proliferation; nervous system development; triacylglycerol catabolic process
