products description :
Principle of the Assay This experiment use double-sandwich elisa technique and the ELISA Kit provided is typical. The pre-coated antibody is human GLS monoclonal antibody and the detecting antibody is polyclonal antibody with biotin labeled. Samples and biotin labeling antibody are added into ELISA plate wells and washed out with PBS or TBS. Then Avidin-peroxidase conjugates are added to ELISA wells in order; Use TMB substrate for coloring after reactant thoroughly washed out by PBS or TBS. TMB turns into blue in peroxidase catalytic and finally turns into yellow under the action of acid. The color depth and the testing factors in samples are positively correlated.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes the K-type mitochondrial glutaminase. The encoded protein is an phosphate-activated amidohydrolase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of glutamine to glutamate and ammonia. This protein is primarily expressed in the brain and kidney plays an essential role in generating energy for metabolism, synthesizing the brain neurotransmitter glutamate and maintaining acid-base balance in the kidney. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2012]
uniprot summary :
glutaminase: Catalyzes the first reaction in the primary pathway for the renal catabolism of glutamine. Plays a role in maintaining acid-base homeostasis. Regulates the levels of the neurotransmitter glutamate in the brain. Isoform 2 lacks catalytic activity. Belongs to the glutaminase family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Protein type: Mitochondrial; EC 3.5.1.2; Hydrolase; Other Amino Acids Metabolism - D-Glutamine and D-glutamate; Energy Metabolism - nitrogen; Amino Acid Metabolism - alanine, aspartate and glutamate; Amino Acid Metabolism - arginine and proline. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2q32-q34. Cellular Component: mitochondrion; mitochondrial matrix; cytosol. Molecular Function: protein binding; glutaminase activity. Biological Process: synaptic transmission; glutamate secretion; suckling behavior; neurotransmitter secretion; glutamine catabolic process; neurological control of breathing; glutamate biosynthetic process; amino acid biosynthetic process; protein homotetramerization
