products description :
Intended Uses This ELISA kit applies to the in vitro quantitative determination of Human BCL2A1 concentrations in serum, plasma and other biological fluids. Principle of the Assay: This ELISA kit uses Sandwich-ELISA as the method. The micro ELISA plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to BCL2A1. Standards or samples are added to the appropriate micro ELISA plate wells and combined with the specific antibody. Then a biotinylated detection antibody specific for BCL2A1 and Avidin-Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) conjugate is added to each micro plate well successively and incubated. Free components are washed away. The substrate solution is added to each well. Only those wells that contain BCL2A1, biotinylated detection antibody and Avidin-HRP conjugate will appear blue in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of a sulphuric acid solution and the color turns yellow. The optical density (OD) is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm +/- 2 nm. The OD value is proportional to the concentration of BCL2A1. You can calculate the concentration of BCL2A1 in the samples by comparing the OD of the samples to the standard curve.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes a member of the BCL-2 protein family. The proteins of this family form hetero- or homodimers and act as anti- and pro-apoptotic regulators that are involved in a wide variety of cellular activities such as embryonic development, homeostasis and tumorigenesis. The protein encoded by this gene is able to reduce the release of pro-apoptotic cytochrome c from mitochondria and block caspase activation. This gene is a direct transcription target of NF-kappa B in response to inflammatory mediators, and is up-regulated by different extracellular signals, such as granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), CD40, phorbol ester and inflammatory cytokine TNF and IL-1, which suggests a cytoprotective function that is essential for lymphocyte activation as well as cell survival. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
BCL2A1: Retards apoptosis induced by IL-3 deprivation. May function in the response of hemopoietic cells to external signals and in maintaining endothelial survival during infection. Interacts directly with BAK1, BID, BMF and BBC3. Interacts directly with BCL2L11/BIM. Interacts with BAX isoform Sigma. Interacts directly with PMAIP1. By phorbol ester and inflammatory cytokines, such as TNF or IL1B/interleukin-1 beta, but not by growth factors. Seems to be restricted to the hematopoietic compartment. Expressed in peripheral blood, spleen, and bone marrow, at moderate levels in lung, small intestine and testis, at a minimal levels in other tissues. Also found in vascular smooth muscle cells and hematopoietic malignancies. Belongs to the Bcl-2 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 15q24.3. Cellular Component: mitochondrial outer membrane. Molecular Function: BH domain binding; protein binding; protein homodimerization activity; protein heterodimerization activity. Biological Process: DNA damage response, signal transduction resulting in induction of apoptosis; negative regulation of apoptosis
