products description :
Intended Uses: This ELISA kit applies to the in vitro quantitative determination of Human SOD3 concentrations in serum, plasma and other biological fluids. Principle of the Assay This ELISA kit uses Competitive-ELISA as the method. The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with SOD3. During the reaction, SOD3 in the sample or standard competes with a fixed amount of SOD3 on the solid phase supporter for sites on the Biotinylated Detection Ab specific to SOD3. Excess conjugate and unbound sample or standard are washed from the plate, and Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. Then a TMB substrate solution is added to each well. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of a sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm +/- 2 nm. The concentration of SOD3 in the samples is then determined by comparing the OD of the samples to the standard curve.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes a member of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) protein family. SODs are antioxidant enzymes that catalyze the dismutation of two superoxide radicals into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen. The product of this gene is thought to protect the brain, lungs, and other tissues from oxidative stress. The protein is secreted into the extracellular space and forms a glycosylated homotetramer that is anchored to the extracellular matrix (ECM) and cell surfaces through an interaction with heparan sulfate proteoglycan and collagen. A fraction of the protein is cleaved near the C-terminus before secretion to generate circulating tetramers that do not interact with the ECM. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
