Samples: Serum, Plasma, Biological Fluids. Assay Type: Sandwich. Detection Range: 15.625-1000pg/mL. Sensitivity: Min: 9.375pg/mL; Max: 1000pg/mL
products description :
Intended Uses: This ELISA kit applies to the invitro quantitative determination of RatRENconcentrations in serum, plasma and other biological fluids. Principle of the Assay: This ELISA kit uses Sandwich-ELISA as the method. The micro ELISA plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to REN. Standards or samples are added to the appropriate micro ELISA plate wells and combined with the specific antibody. Then a biotinylated detection antibody specific for RENand Avidin-Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) conjugate is added to each micro plate well successively and incubated. Free components are washed away. The substrate solution is added to each well. Only those wells that contain REN, biotinylated detection antibody and Avidin-HRP conjugate will appear blue in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of a sulphuric acid solution and the color turns yellow. The optical density (OD) is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm +/- 2 nm. The OD value is proportional to the concentration of REN.You can calculate the concentration of RENin the samples by comparing the OD of the samples to the standard curve.

ncbi summary :
Renin catalyzes the first step in the activation pathway of angiotensinogen--a cascade that can result in aldosterone release, vasoconstriction, and increase in blood pressure. Renin, an aspartyl protease, cleaves angiotensinogen to form angiotensin I, which is converted to angiotensin II by angiotensin I converting enzyme, an important regulator of blood pressure and electrolyte balance. Transcript variants that encode different protein isoforms and that arise from alternative splicing and the use of alternative promoters have been described, but their full-length nature has not been determined. Mutations in this gene have been shown to cause familial hyperproreninemia. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
REN: Renin is a highly specific endopeptidase, whose only known function is to generate angiotensin I from angiotensinogen in the plasma, initiating a cascade of reactions that produce an elevation of blood pressure and increased sodium retention by the kidney. Interacts with ATP6AP2. Interaction with ATP6AP2 results in a 5-fold increased efficiency in angiotensinogen processing. Belongs to the peptidase A1 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Protein type: Protease; Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted; EC 3.4.23.15. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q32. Cellular Component: extracellular space; cytoplasm; extracellular region; plasma membrane. Molecular Function: peptidase activity; insulin-like growth factor receptor binding; aspartic-type endopeptidase activity; receptor binding. Biological Process: response to cAMP; hormone-mediated signaling; cell maturation; male gonad development; renin-angiotensin regulation of aldosterone production; drinking behavior; response to lipopolysaccharide; proteolysis; angiotensin maturation; cellular protein metabolic process; regulation of MAPKKK cascade; regulation of blood pressure; beta-amyloid metabolic process; mesonephros development; kidney development. Disease: Renal Tubular Dysgenesis; Hyperuricemic Nephropathy, Familial Juvenile, 2
