products description :
Intended Uses: This ELISA kit can be applied to the in vitro quantitative determination of Human MUC7 concentrations in serum, plasma and other biological fluids. Principle of the Assay: This ELISA kit uses Sandwich-ELISA as the method. The micro ELISA plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to Human MUC7. Standards or samples are added to appropriate micro ELISA plate wells and combined with the specific antibody. Then a biotinylated detection antibodies specific for Human MUC7 and Avidin- Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) conjugate are added to each micro plate well successively and incubated. After incubation, free components are washed away. Then the Substrate Reagent is added to each well, only those wells that contain Human MUC7, biotinylated detection antibody and Avidin-HRP conjugate will appear blue in color. The enzymesubstrate reaction will be terminated by adding Stop Solution and appears yellow in color. The optical density (OD) can be measured with spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 450 nm ± 2 nm. The OD value is proportional to the concentration of Human MUC7. The concentration of Human MUC7 in samples can be calculated by comparing the OD of the samples with the standard curve.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes a small salivary mucin, which is thought to play a role in facilitating the clearance of bacteria in the oral cavity and to aid in mastication, speech, and swallowing. The central domain of this glycoprotein contains tandem repeats, each composed of 23 amino acids. This antimicrobial protein has antibacterial and antifungal activity. The most common allele contains 6 repeats, and some alleles may be associated with susceptibility to asthma. Alternatively spliced transcript variants with different 5' UTR, but encoding the same protein, have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2014]
uniprot summary :
MUC7: May function in a protective capacity by promoting the clearance of bacteria in the oral cavity and aiding in mastication, speech, and swallowing. Binds P.aeruginosa pili. Genetic variations in MUC7 are associated with susceptibility to asthma (ASTHMA). The most common chronic disease affecting children and young adults. It is a complex genetic disorder with a heterogeneous phenotype, largely attributed to the interactions among many genes and between these genes and the environment. It is characterized by recurrent attacks of paroxysmal dyspnea, with weezing due to spasmodic contraction of the bronchi. Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 4q13.3. Cellular Component: Golgi lumen. Molecular Function: protein binding. Biological Process: protein amino acid O-linked glycosylation; cellular protein metabolic process; O-glycan processing; post-translational protein modification. Disease: Asthma, Susceptibility To
