products description :
Recognizes an epitope involving residues 534-546 incysteine-rich repeat 3 of the CD18 antigen (integrin beta2 subunit; beta2 integrin). CD18 is a 90-95 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed on al leukocytes. Integrin alpha-L/beta-2 is a receptor for ICAM1, ICAM2, ICAM3 and ICAM4. Integrins alpha-M/beta-2 and alpha-X/beta-2 are receptors for the iC3b fragment of the third complement component and for fibrinogen. Integrin alpha-X/beta-2 recognizes the sequence G-P-R in fibrinogen alpha-chain. Integrin alpha-M/beta-2 recognizes P1 and P2 peptides of fibrinogen gamma chain. Integrin alpha-M/beta-2 is also a receptor for factor X. Integrin alpha-D/beta-2 is a receptor for ICAM3 and VCAM1. Triggers neutrophil transmigration during lung injury through PTK2B/PYK2-mediated activation.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes an integrin beta chain, which combines with multiple different alpha chains to form different integrin heterodimers. Integrins are integral cell-surface proteins that participate in cell adhesion as well as cell-surface mediated signalling. The encoded protein plays an important role in immune response and defects in this gene cause leukocyte adhesion deficiency. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2014]
uniprot summary :
ITGB2: the integrin beta 2 subunit. Can combine with multiple partners resulting in different integrins. For example, beta 2 combines with the alpha L chain to form the integrin LFA-1, and combines with the alpha M chain to form the integrin Mac-1. Participates in cell adhesion as well as cell-surface mediated signaling. Defects are the cause of leukocyte adhesion deficiency type I (LAD1). Protein type: Cell adhesion; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis; Cell surface; Membrane protein, integral; Receptor, misc. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 21q22.3. Cellular Component: cell surface; membrane; plasma membrane; integrin complex; vesicle; receptor complex; lipid raft. Molecular Function: protein binding; protein heterodimerization activity; metal ion binding; protein complex binding; ICAM-3 receptor activity; cell adhesion molecule binding; glycoprotein binding; protein kinase binding. Biological Process: extracellular matrix organization and biogenesis; positive regulation of nitric oxide biosynthetic process; apoptosis; cell-matrix adhesion; natural killer cell activation; receptor clustering; activation of NF-kappaB transcription factor; regulation of cell shape; leukocyte adhesion; cell-cell signaling; cellular extravasation; inflammatory response; cell adhesion; regulation of peptidyl-tyrosine phosphorylation; toll-like receptor 4 signaling pathway; aging; integrin-mediated signaling pathway; neutrophil chemotaxis; regulation of immune response; activated T cell proliferation; leukocyte migration during inflammatory response; heterotypic cell-cell adhesion; positive regulation of angiogenesis; toll-like receptor signaling pathway; endothelial cell migration; innate immune response; blood coagulation; leukocyte migration.
