products categories :
Family: Ion Channel. Subfamily: Calcium channel - TRP
products description :
Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid (TRPV) channels are widely expressed in both sensory and nonsensory cells. TRPV2, a member of transient receptor potential ion channels, responds to high-threshold noxious heat (with a threshold of approximately 52 degrees C), but neither to capsaicin nor to proton. TRPV2 transcripts are not restricted to the sensory nervous system, indicating that this channel may be activated by stimuli other than heat.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes an ion channel that is activated by high temperatures above 52 degrees Celsius. The protein may be involved in transduction of high-temperature heat responses in sensory ganglia. It is thought that in other tissues the channel may be activated by stimuli other than heat. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
TRPV2: Calcium-permeable, non-selective cation channel with an outward rectification. Seems to be regulated, at least in part, by IGF-I, PDGF and neuropeptide head activator. May transduce physical stimuli in mast cells. Activated by temperatures higher than 52 degrees Celsius; is not activated by vanilloids and acidic pH. Belongs to the transient receptor (TC 1.A.4) family. TrpV subfamily. TRPV2 sub-subfamily. Protein type: Membrane protein, multi-pass; Membrane protein, integral; Channel, cation. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17p11.2. Cellular Component: cell surface; integral to plasma membrane; melanosome; plasma membrane; endomembrane system. Molecular Function: calcium channel activity; ion transmembrane transporter activity; ion channel activity; cation channel activity. Biological Process: response to temperature stimulus; response to heat; transport; positive regulation of axon extension; sensory perception; transmembrane transport
