products description :
CD79a is part of the B cell receptor complex, and is expressed by all B lymphocytes. CD5 is a 67kD glycoprotein expressed by all mature T cells and by a subset of mature B cells. CD5 has been shown to act as a ligand for the B cell marker CD72. CD5 positive B cells have been implicated in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune disorders and are the normal counterpart of the malignant cells in B cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. This combination of antibodies is useful for simultaneously enumerating CD5 and CD79a positive cells. It may find particular application in the study of CD5 positive B lymphocytes and in the study of chronic lymphoproliferative diseases. The CD79a specific antibody in this combination has been reported to be useful in distinguishing B-CLL from mantle cell lymphoma, see Bell, P.B. et al. for details.

uniprot summary :
CD5: a surface glycoprotein expressed on T cells and B-1 B cells. Rapidly recruited to the immunological synapse, lowering the response of the T cell antigen receptor. CD5 interacts with CD72/LYB-2. Promotes B-cell survival through stimulation of autocrine IL-10 production. Contains 3 SRCR domains. Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Cell surface. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q13. Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane; plasma membrane; external side of plasma membrane. Molecular Function: protein binding; transmembrane receptor activity; receptor activity; scavenger receptor activity. Biological Process: cell proliferation; receptor-mediated endocytosis; T cell costimulation; cell recognition
