FST_HUMAN
specificity :
This item recognises human follistatin isoform 288 (FS288). Follistatin (FST) is a single-chain glycosylated protein of gonadal origin, originally identified as an antagonist of activin and suppressor of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) synthesis/secretion. Alternative splicing of FST mRNA generates the two isoforms FS315 and FS288, the latter of which is the main cell-surface form and binds with high affinity to surface heparan sulphate proteoglycans, whilst FS315 binds with only low-affinity, and is considered to be the main circulating form of follistatin. As well as activin, FST interacts with other growth factors such as bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) -2, -4 and -7, myostatin, and growth differentiation factor 9 (GDF-9), playing a key role in cellular differentiation/proliferation, embryonic development and tissue repair. Clone 17/2 has been shown to exhibit 10% cross-reactivity with FS315 in an immunoassay.
form :
Purified. Purified IgG - liquid
concentration :
IgG concentration 1.0mg/ml
storage stability :
Store at 4 degree C or at -20 degree C if preferred. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use. ncbi summary :
Follistatin is a single-chain gonadal protein that specifically inhibits follicle-stimulating hormone release. The single FST gene encodes two isoforms, FST317 and FST344 containing 317 and 344 amino acids respectively, resulting from alternative splicing of the precursor mRNA. In a study in which 37 candidate genes were tested for linkage and association with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or hyperandrogenemia in 150 families, evidence was found for linkage between PCOS and follistatin.
