products description :
Mouse anti Yersinia pestis V Antigen antibody, clone Va13 recognizes the V antigen of Yersinia pestis (also known as LcrV), a 327-residue soluble protein. Yersinia pestis is a Gram-negative bacillus belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae. Infection in humans can take the form of bubonic, pneumonic and septicemic plague amongst other less common forms. All three forms have been known for very high mortalitly rates during several epidemics across the world, possibly including the Black Death that ravaged Europe from 1347-1353. Although such large epidemics have not been seen since the Great Plague of London in 1665-1666, the disease still exists and there is concern as to its use as a biological weapon. The V antigen has many complex functions. It mediates the delivery of toxins into host cell, can stimulate production of interleukin-10 (an immunosuppressive cytokine) and it can inhibit chemotaxis of polymorphonuclear neutrophils. Antibodies against LcrV protect against the plague.
