products description :
Mouse anti Ebola Virus antibody, clone FE18 recognizes the VP40 matrix protein of the Zaire strain of the Ebola virus, a virus that causes hemorrhagic fever. Ebola hemorrhagic fever is potentially lethal and is characterised by a wide range of symptoms including fever, vomiting, diarrhea, generalized pain or malaise, and sometimes internal and external bleeding. The cause of death is usually hypovolemic shock or organ failure. Mortality rates are extremely high, the Zaire strain of the Ebola virus is the most lethal (up to 90% mortality rate). The viruses are characterised by a long, filamentous morphology surrounded by a protein/lipid viral envelope and are transmitted by direct contact with infected blood, body fluids or tissues. VP40 promotes viral assembly and budding by interacting with host proteins of the multivesicular body pathway. It may exist as a monomer, homo-hexamer or homo-octamer.
