uniprot entry name :
IL6_MOUSE
specificity :
This item is specific for mouse IL-6 (interleukin-6), a multifunctional pro-inflammatory cytokine secreted by activated T cells, macrophages, endothelial cells, fibroblasts and osteoblasts, which acts as the principle inducer of the acute phase response in the liver. IL-6 signals through a membrane bound receptor complex consisting of the ligand-binding IL-6Ra chain (CD126) and the signal-transducing component gp130 (CD130), but can also stimulate cells expressing gp130 through a soluble IL-6R. IL-6 has been shown to stimulate B cell differentiation and subsequent immunoglobulin production, promote hybridoma growth, as well as regulating bone metabolism and stimulating energy mobilisation in muscle and fatty tissue. Clone 6B4 IGH 54 can be used to neutralise the activity of 50pg/ml of recombinant mouse IL-6 by >95% in a functional assay.
