products description :
Gamma-glutamyl hydrolase, also known as GGH, is a homodimeric protein that catalyzes the cleavage of the gamma-glutamyl chain of folylpoly-gamma-glutamyl substrates and is a central enzyme in folyl and antifolyl poly-gamma-glutamate metabolism. GGH may play an important role in the bioavailability of dietary pteroylpolyglutamates and in the metabolism of pteroylpolyglutamates and antifolates. Recombinant human GGH protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.

ncbi summary :
This gene catalyzes the hydrolysis of folylpoly-gamma-glutamates and antifolylpoly-gamma-glutamates by the removal of gamma-linked polyglutamates and glutamate. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
GGH: Hydrolyzes the polyglutamate sidechains of pteroylpolyglutamates. Progressively removes gamma-glutamyl residues from pteroylpoly-gamma-glutamate to yield pteroyl-alpha- glutamate (folic acid) and free glutamate. May play an important role in the bioavailability of dietary pteroylpolyglutamates and in the metabolism of pteroylpolyglutamates and antifolates. Belongs to the peptidase C26 family. Protein type: Secreted; EC 3.4.19.9; Secreted, signal peptide; Cofactor and Vitamin Metabolism - folate biosynthesis; Protease. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 8q12.3. Cellular Component: extracellular space; lysosome; melanosome; cytosol; nucleus. Molecular Function: omega peptidase activity; exopeptidase activity. Biological Process: response to drug; response to ethanol; response to zinc ion; glutamine metabolic process; proteolysis; response to insulin stimulus
