Anti-S100A1 (Calcium Binding Protein) [Polyclonal (sheep) antibody recognizes bovine and porcine S100A1.]. This antibody reacts with bovine and porcine S100A1 in immunoblots. Immunoreactivity with recombinant rat and human S100A1 and recombinant human S100A4 is reduced when compared to native bovine and porcine S100A1. Does not react with human S100A2 in immunoblots. This antibody reacts with bovine, rat, and recombinant S100B in immunoblots but less than 5% crossreactivity with S100B is seen in competitition radioimmunoassays. Crossreactivity with other members of the S100 family has not been investigated.

These antibodies are stable for at least one (1) year at -20 degree C to -70 degree C. Store product in appropriate aliquots to avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles

Antigen: Alum denatured porcine S100A1.

Stabilizer: None. Preservatives: None. Available on request. Dilutions Instructions: Dilute in PBS or medium which is identical to that used in the assay system. For Western blots using an avidin-biotin secondary antibody system, a 1:50 dilution has been used successfully. For indirect immunofluorescence, a 1:2 dilution has been used successfully. Optimal dilutions should be determined for each assay system.

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells, and involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. S100 genes include at least 13 members which are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21. This protein may function in stimulation of Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release, inhibition of microtubule assembly, and inhibition of protein kinase C-mediated phosphorylation. Reduced expression of this protein has been implicated in cardiomyopathies. [provided by RefSeq]

Function: Weakly binds calcium but binds zinc very tightly-distinct binding sites with different affinities exist for both ions on each monomer. Physiological concentrations of potassium ion antagonize the binding of both divalent cations, especially affecting high-affinity calcium-binding sites. Subunit structure: Dimer of either two alpha chains, or two beta chains, or one alpha and one beta chain. Interacts with AGER and CAPZA1. By similarity. Interacts with FKBP4. Ref.5 Ref.6.
