Background: Heat Shock Protein 90(HSP70) exists in multiple forms in mammalian cells. It has a unique 30-amino acid N terminus instead of the 223-amino acid ATP/geldanamycin-binding domain found at the N terminus of full-length HSPCA, which contains 732 amino acids. Functional proteomic screens reveal an essential extracellular role for hsp90-alpha in cancer cell invasiveness.
