products description :
MyBioSource produces bovine serum Haptoglobin for research, life science, and manufacturing uses. Custom preparations, technical support, bulk quantities and aliquoting available. Haptoglobin can be used for the early diagnosis of bovine respiratory disease in cattle. Haptoglobin is a serum protein that consists of two alpha and two beta chains connected to disulfide bridges. The alpha and beta chains are characterized by molecular weights of 10kDa and 40kDa approximately, and acts as a hemoglobin scavenger and has been associated with protease inhibitory activity.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes a haptoglobin-related protein that binds hemoglobin as efficiently as haptoglobin. Unlike haptoglobin, plasma concentration of this protein is unaffected in patients with sickle cell anemia and extensive intravascular hemolysis, suggesting a difference in binding between haptoglobin-hemoglobin and haptoglobin-related protein-hemoglobin complexes to CD163, the hemoglobin scavenger receptor. This protein may also be a clinically important predictor of recurrence of breast cancer. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]
