products description :
Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of Porcine Keratinocyte Growth Factor (also known as KGF) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, cell lysates, tissue homogenates. Principles of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with human KGF antibody. KGF present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated human KGF Antibody is added and binds to KGF in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated KGFantibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of human KGF. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

ncbi summary :
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. This protein is a potent epithelial cell-specific growth factor, whose mitogenic activity is predominantly exhibited in keratinocytes but not in fibroblasts and endothelial cells. Studies of mouse and rat homologs of this gene implicated roles in morphogenesis of epithelium, reepithelialization of wounds, hair development and early lung organogenesis. uniprot summary :
Plays an important role in the regulation of embryonic development, cell proliferation and cell differentiation. Required for normal branching morphogenesis. Growth factor active on keratinocytes. Possible major paracrine effector of normal epithelial cell proliferation.
