products description :
The key enzyme in the biosynthesis of lipid A, a phosphorylated glycolipid that anchors the lipopolysaccharide to the outer membrane of the cell. Degraded by FtsH; when the activity of FtsH is reduced too much lipid A and not enough phospholipids are made (both pathways use the same precursor), which is lethal.

ncbi summary :
LpxC regulated degradation is facilitated by FtsH. [More information is available at EcoGene: EG10265]. UDP-3-O-acyl-N-acetylglucosamine deacetylase (LpxC) catalyzes the second reaction and the first committed step in lipid A biosynthesis. [More information is available at EcoCyc: EG10265].
uniprot summary :
Catalyzes the hydrolysis of UDP-3-O-myristoyl-N-acetylglucosamine to form UDP-3-O-myristoylglucosamine and acetate, the committed step in lipid A biosynthesis.
