products description :
Description: FSH Human is a glycoprotein produced from urine of post-menopausal women and having a total molecular mass of 30,000 Dalton.FSH is a heterodimeric hormone consisting of 92 amino acids a chain and 111 amino acids b chain. The FSH is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. Introduction: Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) is a hormone synthesised and secreted by gonadotropes in the anterior pituitary gland. FSH and LH act synergistically in reproductionIn women, in the ovary FSH stimulates the growth of immature Graafian follicles to maturation. As the follicle grows it releases inhibin, which shuts off the FSH production. In men, FSH enhances the production of androgen-binding proteinby the Sertoli cells of the testes and is critical for spermatogenesis. In both males and females, FSH stimulates the maturation of germ cells. In females, FSH initiates follicular growth, specifically affecting granulosa cells. With the concomitant rise in inhibin B FSH levels then decline in the late follicular phase. This seems to be critical in selecting only the most advanced follicle to proceed to ovulation. At the end of the luteal phase, there is a slight rise in FSH that seems to be of importance to start the next ovulatory cycle.Like its partner, LH, FSH release at the pituitary gland is controlled by pulses of gonadotropin-releasing hormone(GnRH). Those pulses, in turn, are subject to the estrogen feed-back from the gonads.

ncbi summary :
The pituitary glycoprotein hormone family includes follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, chorionic gonadotropin, and thyroid-stimulating hormone. All of these glycoproteins consist of an identical alpha subunit and a hormone-specific beta subunit. This gene encodes the beta subunit of follicle-stimulating hormone. In conjunction with luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone induces egg and sperm production. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same protein. uniprot summary :
FSHB: Stimulates development of follicle and spermatogenesis in the reproductive organs. Defects in FSHB are a cause of isolated follicle- stimulating hormone deficiency (IFSHD). Selective follicle-stimulating hormone deficiency is an uncommon cause of infertility, producing amenorrhea and hypogonadism in women and oligo or azoospermia with normal testosterone levels in normally virilised men. Belongs to the glycoprotein hormones subunit beta family. Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11p13. Cellular Component: cytoplasm; extracellular region. Molecular Function: follicle-stimulating hormone activity; protein binding; hormone activity. Biological Process: progesterone biosynthetic process; follicle-stimulating hormone signaling pathway; peptide hormone processing; female gamete generation; Sertoli cell proliferation; female pregnancy; signal transduction; cellular protein metabolic process; regulation of osteoclast differentiation; transforming growth factor beta receptor signaling pathway; positive regulation of cell proliferation; positive regulation of bone resorption; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; positive regulation of cell migration. Disease: Follicle-stimulating Hormone Deficiency, Isolated
