ncbi summary :
The protein encoded by this gene is T-cell receptor zeta, which together with T-cell receptor alpha/beta and gamma/delta heterodimers, and with CD3-gamma, -delta and -epsilon, forms the T-cell receptor-CD3 complex. The zeta chain plays an important role in coupling antigen recognition to several intracellular signal-transduction pathways. Low expression of the antigen results in impaired immune response. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
CD3Z: a T cell surface glycoprotein that is a component of the T cell antigen receptor. Plays an important role in coupling antigen recognition to several intracellular signal-transduction pathways. Low expression of the CD3-epsilon results in impaired immune response. Two alternatively spliced isoforms have been described. Protein type: Receptor, misc.; Membrane protein, integral. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q24.2. Cellular Component: cytoplasm; plasma membrane; T cell receptor complex. Molecular Function: identical protein binding; protein binding. Biological Process: regulation of defense response to virus by virus; regulation of immune response; T cell costimulation; T cell receptor signaling pathway. Disease: Immunodeficiency 25
