ncbi summary :
The glycine-N-acyltransferase protein conjugates glycine with acyl-CoA substrates in the mitochondria. The protein is thought to be important in the detoxification of endogenous and xenobiotic acyl-CoA's. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. uniprot summary :
GLYAT: Mitochondrial acyltransferase which transfers an acyl group to the N-terminus of glycine and glutamine, although much less efficiently. Can conjugate numerous substrates to form a variety of N-acylglycines, with a preference for benzoyl-CoA over phenylacetyl-CoA as acyl donors. Thereby detoxify xenobiotics, such as benzoic acid or salicylic acid, and endogenous organic acids, such as isovaleric acid. Belongs to the glycine N-acyltransferase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Protein type: Mitochondrial; Transferase; EC 2.3.1.71; EC 2.3.1.13. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q12.1. Cellular Component: mitochondrial matrix; mitochondrion. Molecular Function: glycine N-benzoyltransferase activity; protein binding; transferase activity, transferring acyl groups. Biological Process: acyl-CoA metabolic process; glycine metabolic process; monocarboxylic acid metabolic process; xenobiotic metabolic process
