products description :
Deoxycytidine kinase (DCK) is required for the phosphorylation of several deoxyribonucleosides and their nucleoside analogs. Deficiency of DCK is associated with resistance to antiviral and anticancer chemotherapeutic agents. Conversely, increased deoxycytidine kinase activity is associated with increased activation of these compounds to cytotoxic nucleoside triphosphate derivatives. DCK is clinically important because of its relationship to drug resistance and sensitivity. [NCBI Entrez Gene Summary]

uniprot summary :
DCK: Required for the phosphorylation of the deoxyribonucleosides deoxycytidine (dC), deoxyguanosine (dG) and deoxyadenosine (dA). Has broad substrate specificity, and does not display selectivity based on the chirality of the substrate. It is also an essential enzyme for the phosphorylation of numerous nucleoside analogs widely employed as antiviral and chemotherapeutic agents. Belongs to the DCK/DGK family. Protein type: Nucleotide Metabolism - purine; Nucleotide Metabolism - pyrimidine; Kinase, other; EC 2.7.1.74. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 4q13.3-q21.1. Cellular Component: nucleus; cytosol. Molecular Function: protein homodimerization activity; nucleoside kinase activity; deoxycytidine kinase activity; drug binding; ATP binding. Biological Process: pyrimidine base metabolic process; pyrimidine nucleotide metabolic process; nucleotide biosynthetic process; nucleobase, nucleoside and nucleotide metabolic process; pyrimidine nucleoside salvage; phosphorylation; purine salvage; purine base metabolic process; deoxyribonucleoside monophosphate biosynthetic process
