products description :
The BTG1 gene locus has been shown to be involved in a t(8;12)(q24;q22) chromosomal translocation in a case of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia. It is a member of a family of antiproliferative genes. BTG1 expression is maximal in the G0/G1 phases of the cell cycle and downregulated when cells progressed through G1. It negatively regulates cell proliferation. [NCBI Entrez Gene Summary]

ncbi summary :
This gene is a member of an anti-proliferative gene family that regulates cell growth and differentiation. Expression of this gene is highest in the G0/G1 phases of the cell cycle and downregulated when cells progressed through G1. The encoded protein interacts with several nuclear receptors, and functions as a coactivator of cell differentiation. This locus has been shown to be involved in a t(8;12)(q24;q22) chromosomal translocation in a case of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]
uniprot summary :
BTG1: Anti-proliferative protein. A chromosomal aberration involving BTG1 may be a cause of a form of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Translocation t(8;12)(q24;q22) with MYC. Belongs to the BTG family. Protein type: Oncoprotein; Cell cycle regulation. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12q22. Cellular Component: cytoplasm; nucleus. Molecular Function: protein binding; enzyme binding; transcription cofactor activity; kinase binding. Biological Process: negative regulation of cell proliferation; positive regulation of angiogenesis; cell migration; positive regulation of endothelial cell differentiation; regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; negative regulation of cell growth; positive regulation of myoblast differentiation
