DNA polymerase beta (POLB) belongs to the DNA polymerase type-X family. The structure of DNA polymerase beta has been resolved and shows two domains, an 8-kDa domain consisting of several helices and a 31-kDa domain consisting of several subdomains, the fingers, the thumb, and the palm respectively. It is typically described as a DNA repair enzyme, involved in various types of DNA repair such as Base Excision Repair (BER), Nucleotide Excision Repair (NER), post-replicative Mismatch Repair (MMR), and Double Strand Break Repair (DSBR) [1] .
