IL-13 is a cytokine. IL-13 down-regulates proinflammatory cytokine synthesis by partially inhibiting NF-kappa-B . IL-13 induces vascular cell adhesion protein 1/VCAM1 to exert its biological role through its receptor, activating JAK1 and TYK2, thereby activating STAT6 . IL-13 is a cytokine secreted by helper T-2 (Th2) cells, CD4 cells, natural killer T cells, mast cells, basophil cells, eosinophilic cells, and trophic cells. IL-13 is a central regulator of IgE synthesis, goblet cell hyperplasia, mucous hypersecretion, airway hyperresponsiveness, fibrosis, and chitinase upregulation, and is a vector of allergic inflammation and different diseases, including asthma. IL-13 down-regulates proinflammatory cytokine synthesis by partially inhibiting NF-kappa-B , including IL1, IL6, IL10, IL12, and TNF-α.
