The TRAILR4/TNFRSF10D Protein functions as a receptor for the cytotoxic ligand TRAIL, although it contains a truncated death domain, rendering it incapable of inducing apoptosis. Paradoxically, TRAILR4/TNFRSF10D not only fails to induce apoptosis but also serves a protective role against TRAIL-mediated apoptosis. There is conflicting information regarding its ability to activate the NF-kappa-B pathway, with some studies suggesting that it cannot induce this pathway, while others propose that it has the capability to activate NF-kappa-B.
