It converts SAICAR to fumarate and 5-amino-1-(5-phospho-D-ribosyl)imidazole-4-carboxamide, contributing to de novo IMP synthesis. Additionally, it converts succinyladenosine monophosphate (SAMP) to AMP and fumarate.
