Apolipoprotein E (apoE) secreted by HEK cells stably expressing apoE3 or apoE4 (HEK-apoE) binds Aβ, and inhibits Aβ-induced neurotoxicity . The signal peptide is not cleaved and is required for ApoM association with lipoprotein particles as well as Megalin mediated reabsorption by the kidney. ApoM is cleared from the circulation by the ubiquitously expressed LDL R.
