The UCHL1 protein is a ubiquitin proteolytic enzyme essential for processing ubiquitin precursors and hydrolyzing ubiquitinated proteins. As a thiol protease, it specifically cleaves the C-terminal glycine of ubiquitin. UCHL1 Protein, Rat (His) is the recombinant rat-derived UCHL1 protein, expressed by E. coli , with N-10*His labeled tag. UCHL1 protein, a ubiquitin-protein hydrolase, plays a crucial role in the processing of both ubiquitin precursors and ubiquitinated proteins. Acting as a thiol protease, it specifically recognizes and hydrolyzes the peptide bond at the C-terminal glycine of ubiquitin. Additionally, UCHL1 protein has the ability to bind to free monoubiquitin, potentially preventing its degradation in lysosomes.
