The DNase I protein is a serum endonuclease secreted by a variety of exocrine and endocrine organs and expressed in non-hematopoietic tissues. It preferentially selects protein-free DNA, plays a key role in apoptosis-induced cell death, and inhibits actin polymerization by specifically binding to G-actin.
