CD38 protein performs diverse functions, synthesizing cyclic ADP-ribose (cADPR) for glucose-induced insulin secretion. It produces nicotinate-adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NAADP+), mobilizing calcium ions through 2'-phospho-cADPR and nicotinic acid, along with NADP+ and nicotinic acid.
