CD79B protein, together with CD79A, initiates the B-cell antigen receptor complex (BCR) signaling cascade, which is critical for complex internalization and transport to late endosomes, promoting antigen presentation. CD79B enhances CD79A phosphorylation, possibly recruiting kinases or protective proteins. The CD79B protein is essential in conjunction with CD79A for initiating the signal transduction cascade triggered by the B-cell antigen receptor complex (BCR). This cascade leads to the internalization of the complex, trafficking it to late endosomes, and facilitating antigen presentation. CD79B enhances the phosphorylation of CD79A, possibly by recruiting kinases that phosphorylate CD79A or by recruiting proteins that bind to CD79A to protect it from dephosphorylation. CD79B forms a disulfide-linked heterodimer with CD79A and is a crucial component of the B-cell antigen receptor complex. In this complex, the alpha/beta chain heterodimer of CD79B and CD79A is non-covalently associated with an antigen-specific membrane-bound surface immunoglobulin consisting of two heavy chains and two light chains. CD79B also interacts with LYN.
