Cathepsin D is an intracellular aspartic protease of the pepsin superfamily. Cathepsin D is synthesized on the rough endoplasmic reticulum as a pre-pro-enzyme. Cathepsin D is sorted to the lysosomal compartments mainly by M-6-P pathway.
