The CEBP delta/CEBPD protein is a transcriptional activator that recognizes CCAAT and enhanced core motifs. It is critical for immune and inflammatory response genes and enhances IL6 transcription independently or together with CEBPB. The CEBP delta/CEBPD protein serves as a transcription activator, recognizing two distinct DNA motifs: the CCAAT homology found in many promoters and the enhanced core homology prevalent in enhancers. This transcription factor plays a crucial role in regulating the expression of genes associated with immune and inflammatory responses. Functioning both as a homodimer and a heterodimer, CEBP delta enhances IL6 transcription independently and as a heterodimer with CEBPB. Additionally, it can form stable heterodimers not only with CEBPB but also with CEBPA and CEBPE. Notably, CEBP delta directly interacts with SPI1/PU.1, and this interaction does not impact the DNA-binding properties of each partner. Furthermore, CEBP delta engages in an interaction with PRDM16, further highlighting its versatile role in transcriptional regulation.
