SP-10/ACRV1 Protein is a testis-specific acrosomal matrix protein, which is evolutionarily conserved among mammals. The gene coding for the SP-10 protein, Acrv1, served as an outstanding model to understand the regulation of male germ-cell-specific gene transcription. The human and mouse SP-10 proteins share homology in the carboxyl terminal region, but contain distinct amino termini. SP-10 probably has an important role in human sperm function, is a promising contraceptive vaccine immunogen for humans, and can serve as a marker protein.
