In peripheral tissues, it enhances basal metabolism, influences pancreatic beta-cell function, and exhibits pro-angiogenic properties. Within the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus, leptin activates POMC neurons and inhibits NPY neurons, orchestrating the release of anorexigenic and orexigenic peptides, respectively. Additionally, leptin plays a modulatory role in nutrient absorption, reducing glucose uptake in the intestine.
