EGF is a polypeptide. EGF is originally isolated and purified from the submandibular gland of adult male mice. EGF binds to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) on the cell surface and activates a series of signal transduction pathways such as the c-Src/STAT3 signaling pathway, thereby stimulating cell proliferation.
