Background :

Human afamin is a glycoprotein with an apparent molecular weight of 87 kDa and 55% amino acid sequence similarity (34% identity) to albumin. Human afamin is a previously described member of the albumin gene family with four or five potential N-glycosylation sites. Human plasma afamin has been shown to be a specific binding protein for vitamin E. Maximum 18 binding sites for vitamin E per molecule afamin was estimated [1] [2] .
