This protein is a crucial component of the IL-36 signaling system, which is implicated in local inflammatory responses, particularly in epithelial barriers. Proposed to play a role in skin inflammation and contribute to the innate immune response against fungal pathogens, the IL-36RN Protein may activate an anti-inflammatory signaling pathway by recruiting SIGIRR. Notably, it interacts with the cargo receptor TMED10, facilitating translocation from the cytoplasm to the endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment (ERGIC) for secretion.
